Anthropometric and Physical Fitness Characterization of Male Elite Karate Athletes International Journal of Morphology
Sánchez-Puccini,María B; Argothy-Bucheli,Rodrigo E; Meneses-Echávez,José F; López-Albán,Carlos Alejandro; Ramírez-Vélez,Robinson.
This study aimed to assess anthropometric and physical fitness characteristics of male elite karate athletes. Our study was carried out on a sample of 19 male Karate Athletes from Colombia (mean age 31.6±8.8 years). Different anthropometric measurements were taken (weight, height, diameters, circumferences, body composition) from which several anthropometric indices were calculated (body mass index, ponderal index, body index adiposity), and the somatotype was then determined. The performance tests carried out were: Astrand-Ryming protocol, vertical jump, anaerobic power and Wingate anaerobic test. The results (mean±SD) showed a body mass (65.4±12.0 kg), height (167.4±9.3 cm), percent body fat (13.6±3.0 %), ponderal index (41.0±1.8) and body adiposity...

Anthropometric Characteristics of Top-Class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Athletes: Role of Fighting Style International Journal of Morphology
Báez,E; Franchini,E; Ramírez-Campillo,R; Cañas-Jamett,R; Herrera,T; Burgos-Jara,C; Henríquez-Olguín,C.
Human performance efficiency and effectiveness in different sports depend to a large extent on the size, weight and proportion of the physique of the athlete. The aim of this study was to identify morphological characteristics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) athletes. The sample consisted of 25 highly trained male athletes who were classified according to their fighting style; guard fighter (GF) vs. pass fighter (PF). The athletes were assessed for somatotype, body composition and proportionality. For the whole group of athletes the somatotype was 2.23±0.68, 6.33±1.14, and 1.75±0.87 for endomorph, mesomorph and ectomorph components, respectively. Muscle and adipose tissue percentages were 52.34±2.15% and 19.30±2.51%, respectively. PF were significantly more...

Anthropometrical Characteristics and Somatotype of Young Macedonian Soccer Players International Journal of Morphology
Gontarev,Seryozha; Kalac,Ruzdija; Zivkovic,Vujica; Ameti,Vullnet; Redjepi,Agim.
The success in sport performance is closely related to the physical condition of the sportsman. In the assessment of the physical status except physiological and fitness parameters, significant influence have the anthropometric parameters. The aim of the study was dual: to assess the changes in the anthropometric characteristics and the somatotype of young soccer players at different ages and to compare these characteristics with the general population. The analyzed measurements of 486 young soccer players who play in teams of the First national league, with an average age 15.8±1.4. The soccer players were divided into five subgroups, at age difference of 1 year. In the sample height, weight, BMI index, diameters, volumes and skin folds were measured, also...

Anthropometrical Profile of Judo Athletes: Comparative Analysis Between Weight Categories International Journal of Morphology
Franchini,Emerson; Sterkowicz-Przybycien,Katarzyna; Takito,Monica Yuri.
This study compared the anthropometrical characteristics in judo athletes of different weight categories. The sample was composed by 104 Brazilian male judo athletes of national/international level from all seven official weight categories: extra-lightweight (-60 kg; n = 16), half-lightweight (-66 kg; n = 12), lightweight (-73 kg; n = 24), half-middleweight (-81 kg; n = 25), middleweight (-90 kg; n = 15), half-heavyweight (-100 kg; n = 7) and heavyweight (+100 kg; n = 5). The following anthropometric measurements were carried out: body mass, height, skinfold thickness (triceps, subscapular, suprailiac, abdominal, front thigh, and medial calf), circumferences (chest, relaxed arm, flexed arm, forearm, wrist, proximal thigh, medial calf and ankle) and breadth...

Comparison of Agility and Dynamic Balance in Elderly Women with Endomorphic Mesomorph Somatotype with Presence or Absence of Metabolic Syndrome International Journal of Morphology
Ochoa Martínez,Paulina Yesica; Hall López,Javier Arturo; Alarcón Meza,Edgar Ismael; Rentería,Iván; Botelho Teixeira,Ana María Miranda; Lara Zazueta,Humberto; Martin Dantas,Estélio Henrique.
Physical function declines in efficiency with advancing age, contributing to disability. Furthermore, metabolic syndrome is a common illness in elderly populations, somatotayping is a technique for description of the physique and can establish a relation with performance and pathology. The aim of this work was to compare the agility, dynamic balance in elderly women with endomorphic mesomorph somatotype with presence or absence of metabolic syndrome. A sample of 18 volunteers was obtained (age 66.5±4.7 years old), all were elderly sedentary women. They were assessed whit anthropometric variables in accordance with ISAK protocol in order to determine Heath & Carter somatotype; presence of metabolic syndrome they were evaluated according with the...

Relation of Anthropometric Profile and Performance in Competition for Mexican High School Football Players on the Offensive Squad International Journal of Morphology
Martínez,A. E; Peñaloza,R; Lara-Padilla,E; Berral,J. F.
The present study of Mexican high school football players on the offensive squad had the aim of determining the relation between their anthropometric profile, position on the team, and performance in competition. The study included 41 players from 15 to 18 years of age, studying and playing football at one of two high schools. Anthropometric measurements were taken (weight, height, diameter and perimeter of muscle areas) to determine the body mass index, body composition and somatotype. The results show that the anthropometric profile is related to performance (good/very good or poor/deficient), and that this relation depends on the position of the player. For linemen, good performance was associated with being tall, heavy and with a relatively high body...

Somatotype Profile and Body Composition of Players from the Mexican Professional Basketball League International Journal of Morphology
Ochoa Martínez,Paulina Yesica; Hall López,Javier Arturo; Alarcón Meza,Edgar Ismael; Arráyales Millán,Emilio Manuel; Sánchez León,Ricardo.
The purpose of this research was to determine the somatotype profile and body composition of team members of Soles de Mexicali from the Mexican professional basketball league season 2012. A descriptive cross-sectional study in which 10 members of that team are evaluated to determine the somatotype and body composition, they were assessed with anthropometric variables in accordance with ISAK (International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry was performed) the equipment used was the Tom Kit Rosscraft Inc. The somatotype and body composition were determined through measurements of body weight (cm), height (cm), eight skinfolds (mm) triceps, sub scapular, biceps, iliac crest, supra spinal, abdominal, front thigh, medial calf, eleven circumferences...
